Volkswagen, Europe's biggest carmaker, said Thursday that third quarter profit plunged 85.7 percent on a 12-month basis but that it should still end the year in the black thanks to the Chinese market. VW said its third quarter net profit fell to 172 million euros (253 million dollars) while operating profit was down 81.3 percent to 278 million euros.
