An era comes sadly to an end with the well-deserved retirement of Holly McPeak . In an announcement Tuesday at media day for the AVP season, she said the 2008 beach volleyball season will officially be her last. It has been said that she has such a phenomenal lift-off that she can jump thirty inches (kid you not) from beach sand (have you ever tried doing that?) and spike a ball above a 7’4” high volleyball net. Pro beach volleyball star Holly McPeak is hanging up her bikini for good. McPeak is retiring from the AVP tour immediately, it was announced Wednesday. Her decision comes a month after her husband, Leonard Armato, resigned as AVP commissioner. McPeak, a three-time Olympian, finished ninth in her final tournament last weekend in San Diego, partnering with Jenny Kropp. McPeak played beach volleyball in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics. Indian beach volleyball players say they will not wear bikinis in the World Beach Volleyball tournament because they are 'objectionable.' They also claim the skimpy outfits - the mandatory dress for the contest -are against their traditions. As a result the rules have now been relaxed for the team and they will be allowed to compete in t-shirts and long shorts.
