Wake Forest has a team that I’ve been praising since last spring, with the high octane offense of future NBA talent. This is going to be a team that’s fun to watch…unless you are the opposition, of course.

The Cleveland State Vikings remain unbeaten in first-round NCAA tournament games. They've played two of them, 23 years apart, and notched two upsets. The latest victim: one-time top-ranked Wake Forest. Cleveland State raced to an early 17-point lead and withstood a second-half rally by the Demon Deacons to win 84-69. It was reminiscent of the Vikings' only other tournament appearance in 1986, when they upset Indiana and Bob Knight in the opening round. The Vikings (26-10) were seeded 14th... Read Full Story
The latest upset win by the Cleveland State Vikings in the NCAA tournament didn't surprise them at all. Before their victory over Wake Forest, the Vikings were already thinking about the second round of the Midwest Regional. They advanced Friday night by beating the one-time top-ranked Demon Deacons 84-69. On Sunday, No. 13-seeded Cleveland State plays No. 12 Arizona. "We're not celebrating, because we still know we have games to win," Cleveland State guard Norris Cole said. The victory was... Read Full Story

But coach Dino Gaudio said Teague told him shortly before Monday afternoon's deadline to withdraw that he would stay in the draft. The 13th-seeded Cleveland State Vikings have this knack of pulling off these first-round shockers during the NCAA tournament. The funny thing is that they duplicated that success once again on Friday in Miami, FL when they raced to an early first-half lead and managed to fend off the 4th-seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the upset win 84-69.
A 3-pointer by Wake Forest’s Devid Weaver put them to within 55-49 with about 11 minutes left in the game, but they could not get any closer... Read Full Story
James Johnson had career highs with 28 points and 18 rebounds to lead No. 13 Wake Forest past North Carolina State 85-78 on Thursday night. Ishmael Smith added a season-high 18 points and Chas McFarland had 15 for the Demon Deacons (21-5, 8-5 Atlantic Coast Conference). They shot 52.5 percent and led nearly all the way, but allowed most of an early 15-point lead to slip away. Wake Forest recovered in time to improve to 13-1 at home and win for the third time in four games. The victory moved... Read Full Story
