BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's Kurdish-Arab tensions in the disputed Nineveh province may create a human rights catastrophe for minority groups that have faced rising attacks since the 2003 U.S. invasion, a rights group said on Tuesday.  

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spc. Tony Carrasco Jr., 25, of Berino, N.M., died Nov. 4 in Ad Dawr, Iraq, of a gunshot wound suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit. Tony Carrasco Jr., 25, of Berino, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Ad Dawr, Iraq, of a gunshot wound suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit.  Carrasco was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.  

At last the Iraqi parliament has passed a new election law. The election law provides for an open candidate list. The dispute over list type became rather passionate. There were even mass protests. Meanwhile, supporters of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr voted directly for candidates in a primary poll ahead of national elections.
