In the 4 years that I have been doing lightning photography I have been using a Point and shoot camera with great success. The Camera I have been using is a Kodak Easyshare z730. This point and shoot camera has a 64 second exposure option which will definetely put most or all Point and shoots in the basic range and This camera in the more advanced range. Nonetheless, lightning photography is pretty easy. The best times to photograph lightning is at night or early morning before the sun... Read Full Story
The recent cold snap has seen some local ponds freeze over and with temperatures not expected to rise until the weekend a layer of ice is expected to remain on the surfaces - even throughout the day. Although it may look suitable to walk on at times, the ice can become thin very quickly and it's often difficult to judge the thickness of ice which is likely to be thinner in some places. A walk through Sunnyhurst Woods is quite stunning currently with snow lying on the ground and crisp, clear... Read Full Story
I want all of you friends and readers who live in the Midwest or any other place where it is regularly cold and snowy to not laugh. It snowed here today. Honest to God snowed. It is the most snow that I ever saw in Apple Valley. It looks like about seven or so inches of precipitation today. It was crazy. I got up this morning to discover it was very rainy. My mom called and said the pass was closed so there would be no trip to Palm Springs today. We rescheduled for Monday. That way my... Read Full Story
Back before my knees began to give me trouble, I would switch from running to walking when the temperature hit -22 C. Good on them, even though the cold air can do real damage to your lungs if you're not careful. That's one of the... Read Full Story
We have had several days of thunderstorms, some severe and some previously severe and also general thunderstorms. So far I have taken advanatge of about 3 active days. I have photos from July 8th of Lightning at night and then Last tuesdays storms. No lightning from the severe storms but I did manage to get some structure photos. I am still hoping and counting on Night time thunderstorms so I can add to the lightning section of the Photo Gallery. This year has actually been quite... Read Full Story
Just a couple of weeks ago my area had a Winter Like storm that brought freezing temperatures and snow to the Snake River plain. As much as 2 inches fell in the town of Rigby,Idaho at an elevation of 4800 feet. The storm was expected to be a significant storm that could produce as much as 7+ inches for my area along with winds near blizzard criteria. The 2 inches fell with winds only of about 20mph and before the next day came the storm was gone and left behind very cold temperatures in... Read Full Story
Our snow came down powdery, but it's morphed into the packable type now. Good enough for this wimp to go out and make a quick snowman. The ribbon makes it look more feminine, but a snowperson it is!...
