From Wikipedia:

Weatherman, known colloquially as the Weathermen and later the Weather Underground Organization, was an American radical left organization founded in 1969 by leaders and members who split from the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The group organized a riot in Chicago in 1969 and bombed buildings in the 1970s.

They took their name from the lyric "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows," from the Bob Dylan song Subterranean Homesick Blues. They also used this lyric as the title of a position paper they distributed at an SDS convention in Chicago on June 18, 1969, as part of a special edition of New Left Notes. The Weathermen were initially part of the Revolutionary Youth Movement (RYM) within the SDS, splitting from the RYM's Maoists by claiming there was no time to build a vanguard party and that revolutionary war against the United States government and the capitalist system should begin immediately. Their founding document called for the establishment of a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other "anti-colonial" movements to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism and achieve a classless world: world communism."

The Obama, Ayers and Klonsky families must truly believe that Americans are the stupidest people on earth. How else to explain the following? The October 1999 issue of the Catalyst lists among the members of the Planning Committee for the Community Renewal Society’s 10th Anniversary Prom: Michelle Obama, assistant dean at the University of Chicago. John Ayers, executive director of Leadership for Quality Education. Susan Klonsky, a consultant with the Small Schools Workshop. By way of a simple introduction: Michelle Obama is the wife of then Illinois State Senator and current Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. John Ayers is the brother of unrepentant domestic ... Read Full Story

As I made my way carefully around the neighborhood this morning, I began to think of black ice as a metaphor for the challenges we are facing now. Black ice, for those of you who do not live in this climate, is not an oxymoron, but a condition where a thin layer of ice has formed on pavement. The asphalt or concrete shows through, so you don’t know the slippery surface is there until you slip on it. It is one of the joys of driving in winter here, and the cause of hundreds, if not thousands, of broken bones every year. We had ... Read Full Story

Produced by HuffPost's Eyes & Ears Citizen Journalism Unit "Back [in the 60's] segregation was normalized so it's easy to say 'If I would have been alive I would have been right there.' We have not forgotten our fallen friends, not for a moment. March 6 is for us a time of more formal remembrance. Their deaths and all that followed offered us an opportunity to reconsider and recover. We were able to recommit and to see that the first casualty of making oneself into an instrument of war is always one's own humanity, that, in the words of the poet Marge Piercy, "conscience is the sword we wield. Conscience is the sword that...

At age 51, Bill Ayers called himself a "radical" and a "communist." As recently as 2001, Ayers let himself be photographed for a magazine story trampling an American flag. But that's not good enough for the Associated Press. In an article today, AP describes Ayers as a "former radical." AP's de-radicalization of Ayers appeared in an article about a forthcoming biography of Barack Obama, entitled The Bridge, by New Yorker editor David Remnick...
