This is a ten page paper presented at World Library and Information Conference in August 2007. The paper defines tagging and notes how it is done by users of the system. Additionally, it describes several tagging characteristics for example user-oriented, empowering, democratic, cheap, collaboraitve, and dynamic. I have an idea for an essay that connects new services Twitter Lists and Gawker Forums. In one sense, these are merely extensions of tagging and folksonomies popularized by Flickr and Delicious. I bet there is no standard to this, what a shame... I have face tagged all my photos at home now, but it doesn't look like Picasa stores the info on the person in the picture in the image file itself :-(
Here's a pic tagged with me in Flickr, this was not done automatically from the Picasa version though.
Oh it's because this is cutting edge... Yes I remember when we did geocoding by hand this way!
