Joomla core functionality
When we look at the core Joomla MySql Database structure we may see more than we expect. Most robust CMS database structures are really not that large and can keep a site lightweight and accessible. The list below depicts the tables in a typical Joomla MySql Database from a Joomla website. There are extra tables for components we installed to give our site the features we have proven over and over in tests and client deployment sites in Michigan (Detroit, Clinton Township, Macomb, Sterling Heights) and in Canada for our clients in Windsor Ontario.
Anyone familiar with a Joomla, Mambo or Wordpress Content Management System, or CMS, will be familiar with the MySql structure. While fairly complex, access to the tables is for the experienced user and usually not necessary when maintaining a site. Sometimes it is necessary to go in if something like a password has been lost.
The true beauty of a properly scripted php component for joomla is that it will add the necessary tables to the core database without user intervention. Some 3rd party components are free and work seamlessly with the system. Some extensions or add ons are costly and complex but add creative and dramatic functionality to a CM (Content management) Site.
