Time To Change Your Low Diet

There is this general belief that the only way to lose weight is to diet. Even more, it has to be a low diet of some kind, as low seems to be the magic word in the weight loss industry. Low fat diet, low carb diet, low calories diet or any other low that you can think of. And is almost guaranteed that the key to successful weight loss is in the low side of a diet - no pun intended.

As good as these diets may seem to everybody, i am ready to take a closer look and see if this is indeed the "one size fits all" solution to lose weight. So let's be honest for a moment and find out if they stand up to their reputation.

Single sided diet

First of all, every kind of low diet are created around only one dietary factor, while largely ignoring the rest of them. If you concentrate on low carbs then probably fat intake is ignored. Low fat experts tell you is all about reducing fats, so you can forget about calories or carbs. Low calories diets don't care about cholesterol level. It is very rare to find a comprehensive low carb diet who take account of all dietary factors needed. Is even more rare to find one who addresses your personal needs, lifestyle and possibilities.

We don't like them

The more low a diet goes, the less we like it. We are forced to eat tasteless foods like low fat cheese, sugar free cookies, meats who taste like rubber and so on. You may know them better than me. The more we try to restrict our selves, the bigger the temptation becomes. After weeks of foods who taste like cardboard only the thought of a full fried potatoes portion with a juicy steak next to it can drive us crazy. So no wonder that the drop out rate is very big for this kind of diets. We don't like them, they make our life miserable and can't follow them for long.

Low success rate

Is not a secret that the success rate for losing weight with this kind of diets is very low: up to 5%. Which means that even if carbs restriction work and can help losing weight, 95% of people will gain it back right after finishing the diet. Most of them will give up long before that, mostly because restricting ourselves doesn't work well for us. And that kind of makes me wonder: is a method with such a low success rate really worth the misery? It really deserve its reputation?

Food obsession disorder

The worst side effect of these low diets, in my opinion is that in fact they make you obsessed with food. You start analyzing whatever kind of food came into your sight. How much sugar that cake can have? How many calories can be in that small portion, after all it is so small...? If i reduce the lunch size, can i have a piece of that in the afternoon? Why that skinny bitch can eat whatever she likes? If i choose 0% fat instead 3% fat, can i have two of them? God, why somebody can't invent a light pizza?

Your whole life start revolving around food and the desire for more food. When actually all you wanted is to reduce the amount of food so you can get rid of some pounds.

Well, i don't know about you, but to me this low diets trend doesn't seem a very good choice. It is not even a successful way to lose weight, if you consider the above mentioned success rate.

There are other ways to lose weight, more healthy and comprehensive. Much more easy to follow. But the first step is to quit your low diet all together with the food obsession, guilt and frustration. Is not working for you and will never do.

I would look instead for a healthy diet which gives me a greater range of choices for my menu. One that will actually improve the quality of my life instead of making me miserable. I would definitely be looking for that kind of diet to follow for a very long time without frustration. If it has to be a diet, then i would chose the best possible alternative to low carb diet.

I would also look for a way to make my metabolism faster and healthier, like in this two step weight loss method. Bottom line, i would try make my life as easier as possible even while losing weight.
