West Bromich Albion have for two years running been without a shirt sponsor. Albion are now apparently going to be allowed to entertain game-by-game sponsorships after the Football League has given the go-ahead. It is unknown at this point exactly who might sponsor them, though in the past few months the Baggies have worn an England 2018 decal, presumably hoping that all those FIFA World Cup voters watching the Championship will take notice. 45.528700 -122.696227 Read Full Story

Bobby Zamora finally ended his long barren streak as Fulham condemned the top-flight's bottom side to a hopelessly one-sided 2-0 defeat. Zamora had played more than 29 hours of Premier League football since his last goal but tapped home the opener from point-blank range before strike partner Andy Johnson added his ninth of the season to seal a well-earned victory. The home side struck the woodwork four times with Clint Dempsey, Brede Hangeland and Danny Murphy, twice, the men to miss out, while Roman Bednar missed an injury-time penalty for the visitors. Johnson showed an early willingness to run at the opposition, tempting Zuiverloon ... Read Full Story

Tony Mowbray is convinced record signing Borja Valero will have a major part to play in West Brom's future once he has fully adapted to all the demands of the Premier League. Mowbray splashed out £4.75million to sign the 23-year-old play-maker from Real Mallorca shortly before the transfer window closed. The former Real Madrid player has taken time to adjust to the pace and physical power of the Premier League - a sharp contrast to La Liga. But there has been no doubting Valero's skill and technical ability and he has started to have an increasing influence on Albion in recent matches. Mowbray said: ... Read Full Story

The Barclays sale of BGI may be today's whopping deal (see my earlier note), but the rescue of West Bromwich is more interesting. How so? Well it's the conversion of £182.5m in subordinated debt into a brand new form of capital - approved by the FSA - that sets the pulse racing (well, it does if you are a sad obsessive about these things - a big hello from me). The point is that the Profit Participating Deferred Shares to be issued to institutions in exchange for the subordinated debt look a good deal like shares. They give their holders up to 25% of ... Great that you lot are doing well. You will be a stronger team when you go up and with this manager your tactics might be more sensible than the previous 'try to outplay the best teams and lose' manager. We're in trouble of course. Hope for 'saviour' signings in Jan. but that's unlikely. Oh well, with luck we'll become a yo yo team as well.

Just seen on the Transfer Romours page. 'Birmingham are ready to test West Brom's resolve with a £1.5 mill bid for Graham Dorrans.' Ooh go on then, make it £2mill and you can have Jara, Mulumbu, Olsson, Brunt and we'll throw in the ground for good measure. Where do they get this rubbish from?

Lionel Messi for Albion: Roberto Di Matteo was joking, of course. West Brom's head coach was asked what he was imagining for the January transfer window and, having just gone top of the table with a thumping win that ended Bristol City's seven-match unbeaten run, he was entitled to joshing good humour.Seriously he showed diplomatic perspective. He had asked Jeremy Peace, the chairman, what might be available but was not telling the answer...
