July 12th, 2009 | Author: GossipGangsta Pop music parodist Weird Al Yankovic has written a remembrance for Rolling Stone about the passing of Michael Jackson . Yankovic writes: The first time around I pursued Michael Jackson about a song parody, it was a shot in the dark. We’re talking about the most popular and famous person in the known universe, and here I was, this goofy comedy songwriter. He not only returned our phone calls, but he approved it. He thought it was a funny idea. Then when we did the second parody, “Fat,” he was nice enough to let us use his subway ... Read Full Story

Record labels have a lot of things to deal with when it comes to breaking even and/or making a profit. One thing they believe contribute to their troubles is the leaking of records. But on the other hand, they don’t know how to handle that. They also don’t know how to handle hit records and artists. Atlantic Records is a big player in this. Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor leaked twice. Saigon finished his album The Greatest Story Never Told many times before he asked to be released. This seems to be the "in" thing right now, and I definitely didn't coin the phrase or the concept. But I can take credit for always having had a thing for nerdy guys. I think it's super sexy when a guy has dorky habits. Like my boyfriend recently made sourdough bread, and spent several hours trying to understand the chemistry behind the yeast and the flour and the fermenting and all that stuff. The last time I was so attracted to him was a couple weeks ago when he wrestled me for an unopened t-shirt crammed into plastic packaging the size of a bar ... Read Full Story

Santa Claus is a kindly man who loves to give toys to good little boys and girls and indulge in a few too many Christmas puddings, right? Well, apparently there’s a darker side to Santa that I never knew about! But trust Weird Al Yankovic to sing about it! Weird Al tells of the night when Santa snapped, shooting reindeer and attacking elves! And this is the same guy who cuddles up to small children in the shopping malls? The same one we’re trusting to come down our chimneys? You just might not want to show this video to the kids unless you want ... Read Full Story

According to Yankovic, The Trashmen's legacy extends well beyond its status as the best surf band ever to come out of Minneapolis. With its 1964 hit "Surfin' Bird," the group distilled rock music to its essence.
