Smoking Out Yourself

Smoking

Death sold by man

Acute myeloid leukemia and cancers of the cervix, kidney, pancreas and stomach; abdominal aortic aneurysm, cataracts, periodontitis and pneumonia. These names seem to be taken directly from some sort of a dictionary of medical problems. But in fact they are caused by the same source, Smoking. Not only these but one may find more health problems such as stroke, low birthweight, spontaneous abortion, negative effects on the development of cognition and behaviour, exacerbation of cystic fibrosis and cervical cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, nasal sinus cancer,  are all caused by sitting near a smoker on a regular basis. Let me get to something that not only is as horrifying as it sounds but is actually responsible for fatal health hazards for the children whose parents are smoker, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Asthma and middle ear infections in children and various other respiratory illnesses are also said to be effects of secondary-smoking on children. This should be enough to understand how much of a health hazard smoking is for the smokers.

But let us consider another aspect of smoking, the financial aspect. If you happen to be a smoker, have you ever calculated how much money you spend on smokes? Let me give you a rough idea. You spend approximately US$ 50 on smokes every month! That is equal to US$ 600 spend annually on cigarettes! Do you know that the per capita income of a poor family in India is only US$ 562 which means that you spend more money on cigarettes than a family is able to earn in India. This is one of the reasons why the cigarette market has been estimated at approximately US$ 108.2 billion per year.

But let us still ask ourselves; is there ANY good thing about smoking? Smoking is the most easily caught addiction in the world. There have been instances where children as young as 10 yrs old have been found to have been addicted to smokes as they used to steal it from their dad’s pocket. All this has only resulted in is that it caused these children to develop serious medical illness and often shortening of their natural life by at least 14-20 years.

Thus one can conclude that if you are a smoker, then it would be in the best interests of not only you, your family, but also for your finances. In short, it would be cheaper and healthier to get de-addicted from smoking then letting it eat you inside out.
