The medical establishment has long controlled the discourse on how society views disabilities in terms of treatment, coping mechanism, and understanding. By exploring how self advocates and parent advocates have entered the discussion in terms of autism we can better understand how viewing disability from multiple lenses ultimately leads to more fully understanding of disability, its causes, its treatments, and its place in a functional society.
Epilepsy is defined by the Epilepsy Foundation as ” a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions”.
Children and adults are diagnosed as epileptic when they have suffered two or more seizures.
