The medical establishment has long controlled the discourse on how society views disabilities in terms of treatment, coping mechanism, and understanding. By exploring how self advocates and parent advocates have entered the discussion in terms of autism we can better understand how viewing disability from multiple lenses ultimately leads to more fully understanding of disability, its causes, its treatments, and its place in a functional society.
