Six inches of rain added to the fun and created a big mess for the cement pouring. We had to get a special pump and pipeline to transport the cement to the turbine area. With all the rain, the cement truck would have gotten buried in the mud. So we had an unexpected expense to pump the cement from the driveway to the turbine site. TVA to buy 450 megawatts from Dakota wind turbines

The Tennessee Valley Authority, looking outside the region for major quantities of renewable energy, has agreed to buy 450 megawatts from two wind farms in North and South Dakota. The nation's largest public utility announced Thursday it has signed 20-year power purchase agreements with Maryland-based CVP Renewable Energy Co. and Chicago-based Invenergy from wind farms they are developing in the Dakotas. Together, the purchases could supply 140,000 homes. TVA executive Belinda Thornton says this could give TVA the largest renewable energy portfolio in the Southeast. The world's first floating full-scale offshore wind turbine has been inaugurated in the North Sea off the coast of Norway, Norwegian energy giant StatoilHydro said Tuesday. The turbine known as Hywind, which measures 65 metres (213 feet) tall and weighs 5,300 tonnes, lies some 10 kilometres (seven miles) off the island of Karmoey near the Scandinavian country's southwestern coastline, the company said.
