A community portal about Wind power with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into more useful forms, usually electricity using wind turbines. In 2005, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 58,982 megawatts ; although it currently produces less than 1% of world-wide electricity use, it accounts for 23% of electricity use in Denmark, 6% in Germany and approximately 8% in Spain. Globally, wind power generation more than quadrupled between 1999 and 2005.

Maine identifies 3 offshore wind-power test sites

From:  ap.org
Officials on Tuesday identified locations of three offshore wind-power test sites that could unlock the door to huge reserves of energy equivalent to more than 100 nuclear plants in the nation's most oil-dependent state. The sites will be near Boon Island off York in southern Maine, near Damariscove Island south of Boothbay Harbor, and south of Monhegan Island off Port Clyde, Gov. John Baldacci's administration announced. The University of Maine, which has received an $8 million federal... Read Full Story

ND regulators balk at wind tower locations

From:  ap.org
North Dakota regulators, leery of a wind developer's request to locate six turbines less than a quarter-mile from rural homes, have scheduled a hearing for arguments about why they should grant it. The state Public Service Commission in April approved a site plan for Just Wind LLC's project, which the company wants to build east of Napoleon, almost 80 miles southeast of Bismarck. It includes 153 wind turbines capable of generating up to 368 megawatts of electricity and will cost between $800... Read Full Story

EU grants 1.5 billion euros for wind farms, carbon capture

From:  afp.com
The EU commission on Wednesday granted 1.5 billion euros (2.2 billion dollars) to offshore wind farms and carbon capture and storage schemes to help relaunch Europe's economy and cut greenhouse gas emissions. "With this decision the commission has laid the foundation for the development of two key sustainable technologies that will be essential in our fight against climate change," EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs said, adding that it would also "give a push to the economy and... Md. to buy wind and solar power from 4 projects

From:  ap.org
Maryland officials announced plans Tuesday to fill nearly a quarter of the government's annual electricity needs with power supplied by clean energy projects from the Delaware coast to the Appalachian ridge tops. The state will sign 20-year purchase agreements with four wind and solar developers, demonstrating Maryland's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 25 percent by 2020, Gov. Martin O'Malley said. "With the combined resources of strategic public and private partnerships, we... Read Full Story

GE gets $1.4B pact to supply wind farm turbines

Homemade Wind Turbine Uses and Projects

Posted by Randy on November 23rd, 2009 Wind Turbine by Alan Cleaver A homemade wind turbine project can easily be tackled in a short amount of time and for a lot less money than it costs to buy a commercially manufactured product. With the increase in attention being paid to alternative power sources, the prices of retail supplies on the market does not seem to be coming down quickly enough. There’s been a significant growth in the world’s power supplied by wind and solar... Read Full Story

Study: Wind farms have no effect on property value

From:  ap.org
Wind farms have no measurable effect on nearby property values, according to a government report published Wednesday. In the latest study, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory spent three years examining nearly 7,500 sales of homes in 10 communities near two dozen wind energy plants in nine states. The researchers found no evidence home prices were affected by the view or the distance between the home and the wind farm. The findings, however... Read Full Story

How to Build a Wind Generator for Less
