Window Coverings

   In light of the recent announcement of a recall by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and the Window Covering Safety Council, of all blinds and Roman shades with cords, Budget Blinds of South New Castle County, a member of WSC, announced it will assist homeowners who have chosen to replace window coverings by offering a free upgrade to a cordless lift system on all cellular shades purchased before Jan. 31, 2010.

You read that right: today, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Window Shade Safety Council (an industry trade association) announced a voluntary recall of all roman shades and roll-up blinds that are controlled with a cord. That's all of those kinds of shades ever made -- ever. Does anybody not have at least one of these in their house, or a house they visit frequently?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the window blind industry are recalling virtually every Roman blind and roller shade on the market -- around 50 million sets -- because the cords pose a strangulation hazard to children.
