Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet says she’s got the specs for the Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1 - the heart of that rumored “Pink” smartphone and those specs are quite, quite fab! According to the list the Chassis 1 phones will all have a 3.5 inch (or larger) multitouch display and will be powered by an ARM v6+ processor. The Pink phones will also have OpenGL ES 2.0 compatible graphics hardware, 256MB or more RAM and 1GB or more of storage. An interesting story’s popped up on Unwired View , recently, about a new phone that’s been sent through to the FCC (roughly the American equivalent of Ofcom) for approval, from Toshiba. And the pictures they sent through with it are clearly of a Toshiba TG01. There’s just one thing, though… The spec of the new mystery phone are, in a very definite way, not the specs of the Toshiba TG01… In fact, looking at those specs reveals some tantalising information. When RIM acquired Torch Mobile, it got access to Torch Mobiles IRIS browser technology that ran on Win CE. While it is left to our imagination what Blackberry plans on doing with IRIS, speculation is that they’ll use the technolog to develop their own Webkit based browser for Blackberry. I don’t know how Blackberry OS compares to Linux or WinCE, and how much effort is required to port Webkit engine to Blackberry but RIM certainly had eyes on Webkit browser (and possible Flash port that Torch Mobile offered).
