At the turn of the century, the leading sex symbol, Lillian Russell, weighed over 200 pounds. In today's modeling standards Marilyn Monroe would be considered overweight. The average woman is 5' 4", weighs 145 lbs., and wears between a size 11-14. If Barbie were a real person, she would be 6' 0", weigh 100 lbs., and wear a size 4. Based on research, if Ken and Barbie were in fact "real people" Ken could never get Barbie pregnant because her body weight would be so low that more then likely, she would not have a period. "I decided that if I could paint that flower in a huge scale, you could not ignore its beauty." - Georgia O'Keeffe I've been blessed with many readers who are interested in famous women in history. I erroneously assumed that girls growing up now didn't grow up with this void. In an era where women executives ran ... Read Full Story

Editor's note: Pictures unavailable August 26 is the eighty-eighth anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment , giving women the right to vote . In 1971 Congress designated the day as Women's Equality Day —which is the day Hillary Clinton will be addressing the Democratic Convention —a sad irony , not lost on women , regardless of their personal like or dislike of the woman .  In conjunction with Women's Equality Day , August 23 was celebrated in various spots around the country as a sincere Go Topless Day . Now you might think a protest like this would have four girl gone wild types and ... Read Full Story

On December 27th, two police officers on foot patrol discovered an unconscious woman under a bush in Springfield, Massachusetts' South End. She had been raped and severely beaten, and in the frigid weather, her body temperature had fallen to 80 degrees. She was the third woman since October to be found raped and beaten into unconsciousness. "If it were a half-hour later, we would have been investigating the city's 15th murder," said Sgt. John M. Delaney, aide to Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet. The victim is a white woman with a long history with police, Delaney said, though he did not detail her arrest ... Read Full Story
