Hey guys, I desperately want to exclude some categories from coming up automatically in the sidebar in Arthemia Premium. It looks like WordPress is supposed to update .htaccess every time you change the permalink settings. So I think it is very likely a file or directory permissions issue preventing it from happening.

The problem resoved... but I don't know how I did the trick. I turned off my notebook for two hours, then I turned it on again and there was the login page with some horrid warnings about "Headers already sent". Now it was much better than simpy "can't find the server". So I deleted wp-config.php and wrote once more all nesessary info into wp-config-sample and renamed it wp-config.php BUT this time I did it in Notepad not in Notepad++...

The problem is from the XML Google sitemap, that's why when you want to publish or update a post you get that error message, because after updating or publishing, the plugin is called to rebuild the sitemap automatically.. Since XML Sitemaps 3.2.2 and WP 2.9 the automatically update function when publishing a post doesn't work anymore. It just says: Your sitemap is being refreshed at the moment. None of this fixed my problem. Only setting permalinks to default makes the page links work, but they are now p=1 etc. How do I get permalinks to /pagename/ working again? I just updated to 2.8.6. No other changes. .htaccess is writeable and wp is changing it when updates to permalinks page is saved. wp-admin is accessible and works fine so this is not mod_rewrite / rewrite_module.

Your solution works for me, NielsT. First rename the plugin directory, login to the back end of the website, change the name of the plugin directory back to what it was original. To upgrade automatically to a new wordpress version you simply have to go into your WP-settings.php file, and on line 13, change define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '8M') to define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '64M'), or to some even greater number. You will have to do this each time you upgrade, as the new WP-settings.php file is always at 8M  

I have the same issue. And I've set the file permissions likewise, with no success. I even tried deleting the 2 files and setting my wordpress directory to full permissions on all groups I could see. No luck. So I am removing those permission changes until I can do this in a least-permissions sort of way.

Finally I am into this query. The following, finds 5 post IDs from authors that they have a last_name in their meta_key. In my blog, I use a custom field name thumbnail (inside wp_postmeta). Hi everybody, Looks like during the automatic update, all files inside the "wp-admin" folder probably did not get updated. 1) I manually downloaded 2.9. Extracted it. 2) thwn I uploaded the fresh copy of the folder "wp-admin" to my server. Now I can log into my dashboard. See, I tried just putting in a random post ID (like you did), and that's what came up. I just assumed that was normal WP behavior. I'll post another thread trying to get a fix. If I don't put anything in e404.html, then Yahoo! just uses their default 404 error page. WordPress provides how to make one to your WP installation (just a 404.php page) What do you mean by this? Hi, Don't add it into the CSS Stylesheet, this is not the HTML for a page, it is a CSS stylesheet used to control the presentation of a HTML page. You need to put the analytics code inside a file called footer.php, which you should find within your themes folder e.g the location of the file would be: /wp-content/themes/footer.php Then you can add this code without problem right above the tag found in footer.php.

Yessss :) I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.9 and I have the impression that something has changed (at least in the documentation) about permalinks. I simply created an .htaccess file on my server (only Owner permissions was enough) and changed in the Wordpress control panel the Permalinks structure to use only the postname instead of "?p=xxx"... in few seconds my pages changed automatically from UGLY permalinks to postname permalinks!! fantastic...

Hello, After a succesfully upgrading from an old version of NGG to NGG 1.4.3 (WP 2.8.4), a thumbnail error emerge. IMG tag (containing the thumb) is missing from the output. I tested both tags: [gallery=3] and [nggallery id=3] and still the same. I recreated thumbnails also. wp_footer() and wp_head() are in place. Thumbnails from new galleries are also missing - there are only "A" tags without the "img" in it. http://wordpress.org/extend...  

Or you could look directly in the database, comparing your current install to a new one. Right, and that would mean using phpMyAdmin under your webhost's cPanel. For instance, if your db prefix is wp_ (which is a security issue) then look for things like wp_featurific_image_cache and clear those tables. The problem is from the XML Google sitemap, that's why when you want to publish or update a post you get that error message, because after updating or publishing, the plugin is called to rebuild the sitemap automatically.. I disabled the plugin and things got back to normal.. Try it and let me know..

I have copied the whole WP directory structure to the server at least 6 times. Depending on your FTP software and your finickiness of your server, it might just take that many times. The message should be directly below the submit button in Settings->Permalinks, but it doesn't show up at all if the .htaccess file is writable by the server. If its writable, WP will write the file for you. If you don't see the message then presumably WP is able to write the file. Have you checked to see what is in your .htaccess? My website (www.openresources.org) was recently hacked and I have restored all of the functionality except I can't seem to figure out why the wp-admin link is returning 404 file not found. When you go to http://www.openresources.org/wp-login.php you can login successfully but instead of it taking you to the admin screen it displays a 404 error. no nothing helps i tried many things all possible things , lastly i had no option other then live with wordpress 2.6 , its working like air great. the problem area is alloted memory from server administration . its specified in htaccess is 8mb even in php.ini 8mb and 2.8 needs more then that .  

Hi Error 500's usually involve invalid code in the site's .htaccess file. They have nothing to do with the things you are checking. Since you don't even have WordPress installed yet, you might report the issue to your webhost and see if they have any suggestions. You may need some changes in the way your webhosting account is configured on the server.

I use Just Host, and have one blog there. Which I only just put up. I plan to convert all but one of my 14 sites to blogs. They are quick to respond to issues. I like the organization and overall presentation. However, the font used for headings and titles feels "skinny and weak" in this bold design. I think a bold sans-sefif font like Arial or Lucida would work better with the overall design. Otherwise, a well executed design!

It's currently a bit confusing how Job Manager creates the pages - it doesn't actually create any pages within the WordPress database, they're all automatically generated. This site has two great things: Wonderful images and the voice you give to the stories behind the photos. I forgot about the design and became absorbed in the content and photos. Honestly, with the high quality of writing that you do, I would select a theme that is simpler with a clean white background. Why? Your current theme is not conducive to reading lots of text. A cleaner simpler theme using a white background is easier on the eyes and provides better contrast for reading blocks of copy. You have a great writing style and much to say. What I did that seems to have worked was I exported the database, cleared the tables. Reuploaded Wordpress (2.9) and then imported the database. So, I'm guessing there was something in the update from the v2.8 to v2.9 when my client-or whoever- updated it, that caused a conflict. How recently have you made changes to your site? It take about 6-8 weeks for google to show your site on search results even if it has been indexed.
