Review: The Tao of Wu by The RZA
Everyday within the past week while riding home from work on the train, I read RZA's newest book The Tao of Wu. I gained an understanding behind the formation of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan and the importance of chess in correlation to life but the most rewarding bit of information that I gathered came from RZA's book is his perspective on life. It always interests me whenever I have the opportunity to find out what drives a successful person, even when the industry that the individual is affluent in isn't of any relevance to me. Throughout the book, RZA makes it abundantly clear that he's into spirituality by utilizing references to the Five percent nation, Supreme mathematics, Buddhism and Christianity to illustrate his experiences before he maintained his celebrity. I found it funny that RZA writes like he rhymes, as his stories were draped in gowns of eccentricity, he still managed to deliver a clear message without a hurdle in it's path.
In my current situation, where I'm temporarily "stuck" in a profession that I abhor, I often need a reminder to stay on track and to never lose focus on the bigger picture. Sometimes we feel like we're losing an uphill battle and we need a helping hand when all we have to do is continue to have faith in whatever we decide to pursue. For all those who are fans of RZA and/or self improvement, this would be an excellent book to add to your collection. The countless references to Kung Fu flicks, Wu-Tang stories, and RZA's personal triumphs are entertaining and very inspiring. If you fancy yourself a student of life, this may be the book for you.
