Intel will let go its first quad-core processor for notebooks next month, rounding out a extensive revise to its portable computing platform. Last week, Eurocom announced their quad-core Xeon based notebook and this week it is Xtreme Notebooks turn. This mobile server uses X3360 Xeon processor that has 12MB of L2 cache and 2.53GHz clock speed. Buyer can configure the notebook with Blu-ray burner, RAID 0/1/5 hard drive arrays, Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and up to 4GB memory. Intel will be updating its CPU lineup this month. They will start by adding a 45nm quad core processor – Core 2 Quad Q8200 that will have 2.33GHz clock speed and will be priced $224. Intel will drop the price of this processor to $203 in October when it starts shipping processors based on Nehalem architecture. With a launch imminent for Intels new Nehalem chip architecture they have now reduced the prices of some quad-core processors, the new Nehalem architecture allows the chips to execute more tasks whilst drawing less power.
The price reductions are for the core2quad series of chips which include the Q9300, Q9400, Q8300, Q8400 and the low-power Q9400/Q8400 all of the previously mentioned chips have seen an approximate price cut of between 11%-14%.
