When Apple announced new iMacs last month, it delivered the first ever iMac to offer a quad-core processor. The Core i5 and Core i7 quad-core machines were not available right away. But the wait is over, and the Core i5 and Core i7 27-inch iMacs were worth the wait.

Transitioning from 140W to 125W TDP results in a cooler, more efficient processor with added benefits like lower case temperature and decreased power draw. New CPU revisions usually feature improved overclocking capability and this particular chip did not disappoint. With CPU core voltage at 1.5V, we reached a speedy 4.12GHz rock solid stable.

Customers who ordered the 27-inch quad-core iMac in October reportedly received emails saying the machines were shipping. Apple, however, says this all-in-one will ship later in the month. - Apples 27-inch iMac, which uses quad-core Intel processors, has begun shipping to customers who placed orders in October, according to tech site Apple Insider. “Readers have said that Apple has notified them that their hardware has finally shipped...  

The rumor-mill is in full swing again, buzzing about new MacBook Pros with quad-core processors and ATI Radeon series 4500 graphics chips. Such an upgrade, if true, will result in a notable speed bump over the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and Nvidia 9400/9600M GPU found in the current MacBook Pro generation. With all the hoopla [...]  

HP's latest portable desktop, so to speak, is the Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition notebook that will rely on the latest Core i7 720QM or 820QM quad-core processor, packing in a 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M video card alongside a maximum of 8GB RAM, up to 500GB of hard drive space, and a choice between the DVD burner or Blu-ray combo drive. You won't get full HD resolution on the 15.6? display though as it maxes out at 1,366 × 768 pixels alongside...  

Our iMac review included a 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo chip inside, but we received the top-of-the-line iMac housing the more promising 2.8GHz Core i7 processor. Do more cores make up for lower clock speeds? Yes. Often 2X to 3X. The Basic Differences in Chips First off, I should note that the Core i7 chip has what Intel calls a "turbo mode." That is, when it's not utilizing all of its cores, it can dynamically overclock itself up to 3.4GHz on whatever...  

With 8-core chips being the current wunder-boys of the chip world, and with most new computers sold today featuring dual or quad-core chips, it may come as surprise that the new chips on the horizon aren't 12 or 18 core bits of silicon, but 100 core. How the hell do they fit the extra 92 cores in? I don't know, but a semi-conductor company called Tilera with connections to MIT university in Boston claims they do, and their 100 cores processors...  

Well, the Apple Store went down, and we waited with bated breath. And most of what people expected to see came true. Apple's top-of-the-line 27-inch iMacs, powered with Intel quad-core processors, have begun shipping to those who purchased the machines in October, AppleInsider has learned.

The iMac line got a shakeup today with two new models that replace the existing iMacs. While the iMac's basic appearance hasn't changed much, the displays and processors have undergone significant improvements. Courtesy of Apple There are now four models in the iMac line: two with 21.5-inch displays and two with 27-inch displays. Both displays are LED backlit with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The iMacs now support up to 16 GB of RAM...
