He also stars in the film version of the Broadway musical Hairspray.
Speaking to Newsweek in June 2006, director Adam Shankman described Efron as "arguably the biggest teen star in America right now."
Zac became even more popular in the press and online blogs when his girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, became involved in a scandal regarding a nude picture.
High School Musical 3 Trailer
Walt Disney Pictures has debuted the first trailer for High School Musical 3: Senior Year on its official site. Opening October 24 in theaters, the musical sequel stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Matt Prokop, Justin Martin, Jemma McKenzie-Brown and Olesya Rulin.
The third installment finds high school seniors Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) facing the prospect of separation as they head off to different colleges. Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about the future.
