The Crazies is a little seen 1973 horror film by George A. Romero . The plot revolves around a city under siege from infected, murdering psychopaths – and the army – who are sent in to clear up the mess. It has proved hugely influential since. Screenwriter and novelist Alex Garland essentially amalgamated Romero’s landmark flick, Night of the Living Dead with The Crazies. The result being: 28 Days Later . Flash-forward to 2009 and The Crazies has been remade by Hollywood filmmaker Breck... Read Full Story
Watchmen (2009)
Director : Zack Snyder
By Roderick Heath
And lo, there was Alan Moore, bearded, cranky god of the graphic novel. Moore’s totemic work had an instant effect on all the other comic book artists of the late ’80s and ’90s: suddenly every one of them seemed to have recurring pop images turned into grim symbols; digressive, associative story flow; purple passages; and sadistic antiheroes. Watching Watchmen , I felt locked in a time capsule of the cyberpunk geek culture I... Read Full Story

From my perspective, Snyder’s Watchmen achieves two goals. It delivers a visually stimulating companion piece for dedicated fans. And it provides a portal for newcomers taking their first tour through Moore and Gibbons’ thought-provoking but pessimistic universe. Their next step should be toward the bookstore, where the definitive version of Watchmen still waits.
It’s somewhat appropriate for director Zack Snyder to accept the challenge of... Read Full Story
I never thought it was a good idea in the first place. When it was first announced that Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' comic book masterwork THE WATCHMEN would be adapted to the big screen many moons ago, my hackles were raised like never before. This had been back when no less of a cinematic legend Terry Gilliam had been initially attached to the project. It just didn't feel right. In order to transform Moore/Gibbons' vision to the screen, I feared that much would be lost. Too much, in fact... Read Full Story
"Are you ready to get down with the sickness? Movie logic dictates that you shouldn't remake a classic, but Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead defies that logic and comes up a winner. You could argue that George A. Romero's 1978 original was sacred ground for horror buffs, but it was a low-budget classic, and Snyder's action-packed upgrade benefits from the same manic pacing that energized Romero's continuing zombie saga. Romero's indictment of mega-mall commercialism is lost (it's arguably... Read Full Story
Fans should plan to savor every visual morsel when "Watchmen" swoops into movie theaters Friday because the subversive superheroes of the landmark comic book series may never return to the big screen. "There's no way I would be involved in a sequel or prequel," said director Zack Snyder, who turned the graphic novel "300" into a 2007 blockbuster. "Will they make one? I have no idea how you would. The work is the work. This movie is about ideas. Anything else you would do, if you did a sequel... Read Full Story
Watchmen (2009). Directed by Zack Snyder .
Last week I didn't know what to expect from Watchmen. I read a few of the favourable reviews this week and became really interested in this film. This afternoon I was completely blown away from the first scene to the last. Watchmen is The Dark Knight of 2009.
The opening credits are amazing and left me wanting to watch them again to see what I might have missed (I noticed younger versions of David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Truman Capote and Andy... Read Full Story

At this year’s ShoWest, Zack Snyder and George Lucas announce to the world that Snyder has been tapped to reboot the “ Star Wars ” franchise!? April fools joke?
Maybe but here’s the word from MovieWeb.com :
“To be honest, Zack wasn’t always my first choice,” Lucas told a crowd of skeptical journalists and fans. “But I feel he can really 300 up the project.”
“The original trilogy is really lacking in terms of cohesiveness, writing, and overall... Read Full Story

Zack Snyder has found replacements for Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone for his new all-girl project. Jamie Chung and Jena Malone have signed on to join the rest of the cast. As per the Hollywood Reporter, Wood and Stone were previously attached to the project but had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts. Chung is replacing Stone for the role of Amber, a country girl with a big heart, while Malone will take Wood's role as a younger sister to another inmate... Read Full Story
THE graphic novel Watchmen, turned into a film earlier this year and just out on DVD and Blu-ray, has had rather a long journey to the screen.
When the rights, first acquired in 1986, moved from 20th Century Fox to Warner Bros in 1991, Terry Gilliam was hired to direct the project.
But he walked away, believing it to be unfilmable and better suited to a five-hour TV miniseries than a 2hr 30mins big-screen effort.
Alan Moore, the writer of the graphic novel, recalled speaking to... Read Full Story
