Expections

Expectations are the greatest source of suffering. Many of our expectations come from what we have learned in our immediate cultures - family, friends, and society at large, with all of its marketing and sales campaigns. The media seek to impose upon us a certain view of life and "what" is normal, that is, the products we consume, how we are to look, etc. So, if we deviate from these models, then we experience a let-down and a low sense of self. When this happens, it is because we have allowed ourselves to believe what these outside sources are suggesting about our lives and sense of self. Fortunately, the media is completely wrong about who we are! The good news is that the Divine Spirit (OM), our True Source and Origin, is always with us. Divine Spirit is not viewable with the human eye, but if you close your eyes, you can hear the Cosmic Hum (OOOMMMM) of the universe and all phenomena. This is the "Song of God", literally, or as the Hindus say, the "Bhagavad Gita". The one and only thing we can expect in life is the presence of OM. Everything else is a variable. Buddhism preaches that ALL is impermanent. Like I have written before, the Buddhists are 99.9999% correct, however, I agree with the Himalayan yogis who have revealed that OM is a Universal Constant. So, let not the media influence your true sense of self. Sure, enjoy a few things - some good food, conversation, work, travel, and study. However, remember that all of these things are at the level of the mind, and are transitory, and do not last. So, if you expect lasting happiness from these things, you are incorrect. Close your eyes and meditate on "OM", and trust the teachings of the great spiritual souls who have lived over the past several millenia, who could spend days upon days in deep meditation relishing the Eternal Presence of Divine Spirit, OM.
