Ziad Ojakli is Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. According to whitehouse.gov: Ziad Ojakli has served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs since January 2001. In this role, Ojakli is responsible for representing the President and promoting his legislative agenda in the United States Senate. Prior to joining the White House staff, Ojakli served as the Senate Liaison for the Bush-Cheney Transition Team and as the Congressional Liaison for Victory 2000. From 1998 – 2000, Ojakli was Chief of Staff to the Senate Republican Conference Secretary, the late Senator Paul Coverdell (R GA). The Republican Conference Secretary is the 4th ranking position in the GOP leadership structure and is responsible for helping to develop communications strategy relating to the Republican legislative agenda. From 1995 1998, Ojakli served as Chief of Staff to Rep. Mark Souder (R IN). Prior to joining Souder, Ojakli was a Legislative Assistant to Senator Dan Coats (R IN) from 1989 1994 where he specialized in budget, tax, trade and environmental issues. Ojakli, a native of Brooklyn, New York, received his BA from Georgetown University in American Government and is currently a candidate for a MA in American Government from the Johns Hopkins University.
