WATCH: Jared Leto Talks About Transforming Into Rayon in 'Dallas Buyers Club'
[Update: Congrats to Jared Leto for winning the 2014 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor!]
Matthew McConaughey's dramatic weight loss is instantly noticeable in Dallas Buyers Club, a story about a Texas electrician named Ron Woodroof (McConaughey) and his battle with pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986. However, he wasn't the only actor to push his body to the limit.
In the film, actor Jared Leto lost roughly 40 pounds to play Rayon, an HIV-positive transsexual and drug addict who helps Woodroof start a business smuggling in illegal yet effective drugs to the local HIV-positive community. During filming, the actor never broke character and constantly strutted around on set in women's high heels to help better connect and develop his character.
Zimbio sat down with the 41-year-old actor, who is generating serious Oscar buzz for his efforts, to talk about losing weight, insights into women's fashion, and tricks to wearing high heels.
