The Role of the Editors

Learn More
In short, we’re here to help. We’re all writers, bloggers, and Internet junkies hell-bent on making Zimbio an informative and entertaining experience. We’re as much curators of the community’s cutting-edge contributions and our steady stream of licensed photography and news feeds as we are writers and editors ourselves. That said, we’ll do everything we can to maintain an editorial standard consistent with those of any professional publication. As with any network that allows member contributions, there are occasionally people who use misuse Zimbio. We have to delete these people. We’re not here to play the role of big brother, we merely want to make this the best site possible.

So here is a list of the things that the site editors will do from time to time to improve the overall site experience.

~ Delete inappropriate content. Content that qualifies as inappropriate includes: Spam, vulgar language, any sort of porn (written, pictures, videos, or links) and just general nonsense that does nothing but confuse readers.

NOTE: We invite you to contribute articles and opinions on Zimbio.  However, based on our editorial team’s discretion, certain topics are not supported.  Please refrain from posting content about the following topics: gambling, sexual performance, sexual products, international pharmacies, requests for passwords, free downloads, topics that can lead to discriminatory or hate-based contributions.

~ Fix broken links and break links to malware.
Sometimes links break, videos get pulled down, pictures removed from sites linked to Zimbio. When this happens, the editors will do their best to fix these broken items to the point where the page is again useful. The editors will also break links (and likely disable members) to malware

~ Fix typos and inaccuracies. If you write an articles and the headline reads: “Barack to Hilary: Stop the ATtacks”, we’ll fix the misspellings when we see them. If you say “The only man to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong,” we’d correct it and say, “the only men to walk on the moon were…” If you say, “Neil Armstrong would look great in a pair of tights,” we’d have to leave it as it’s a matter of opinion.

NOTE: Due to the volume of pages on Zimbio, the editors cannot see everything.

~ Add pictures, pull quotes, fact boxes, and other editorial polishing devices.
Data shows that pages consisting of only large blocks of text aren’t as popular as dynamic pages with videos, pictures, hyperlinks, etc. To make pages more engaging, editors will oftentimes add additional media, in a variety of forms, in an effort to improve or polish the page.

We have multiple partners from whom we license professional photography. When an editor adds an image to an article, for example, it will always be sources with a note that reads, “Photo added by site manager,” so there’s no confusion how it got there. We don’t want to change the tone of an article by adding an image that does not reflect your written intent, but we’ll do our best. We’re not perfect and the “right” visuals for your story is a subjective area. It’s another reason to always add images to your stories. So long as they stay on Zimbio, anyone can use our licensed imagery. You can find it here.

NOTE: Whenever there’s a change made to any zine, it’s tracked in the History section of that zine. If you’re ever curious who’s adding or deleting what to a zine, the History pull down is in the tabbed navigation under More. This ensures accountability.
