André Leon Talley is at the top of the fashion food-chain. You'll see André at most of the top fashion shows and every fashion week.

André Leon Talley is the editor-at-very large for Vogue magazine and has been front-row regular at fashion shows in New York, Paris and Milan for over 25 years. According to Wikipedia, he uses his influence to promote dozens of young fashion designers. He mentors young talent in other fields as well. His most famous pairings of late have been with designers Tracy Reese, Rachel Roy, and singer/actress Jennifer Hudson.

André Leon Talley was raised in Durham, North Carolina by his grandmother Bennie Davis. Even though he did not live in the lap of luxury, his grandmother's fastidious attention to detail gave him an "understanding of luxury." He escaped lackluster Durham through the gripping pages of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. After attending college in North Carolina, Mr Talley received his master's degree in French from Brown University. While at Brown, Mr. Talley befriended students from the nearby Rhode Island School of Design and often went on weekend trips to New York City. He is associated with former American Vogue editor-in-chief and Costume Institute consultant, Diana Vreeland.

In the mid 2000's, an intervention was initiated by Anna Wintour, to get Talley to lose weight. As seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, he eventually lost a great deal of weight, and was eating healthier.

First, the good : Model/Muse Erin Wasson, in Alexander Wang. The black spray-painted crutches are a nice touch, and the short and sparkly dress suits her perfectly. Erin Wasson should never wear anything longer than mid-thigh. Also, she wears the knee-high gladiators better than anyone I've seen. Vanity Fair writer Amy Fine Collins in, I'm guessing, vintage Geoffrey Beene. A fearless fashion eccentric, she always looks great. Irina Lazareanu in new Helmut Lang, with the brand's husband-and-wife design team. Doo Ri Chung. Simple, understated, with a great pair of shoes; she wears her own designs so well. Isabel and Ruben Toledo, both wearing her ... Read Full Story

Dance aficionado André Leon Talley rearranged a trip to China, presumably for Chanel's pre-fall show in Shanghai, so he could make it to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s opening Wednesday night, which was also a celebration of Judith Jamison’s twentieth year as artistic director. (Just so you get a sense of his level of dedication, Denzel Washington, who was co-hosting the gala with his wife, Pauletta, had to cancel because of a...

The Daily News reports André Leon Talley will replace Miss J on the judging panel for America's Next Top Model. This seems like the last thing Vogue would have him do, but then again he judged Miss Universe, so who knows. A more likely rumor is that Kimora Lee Simmons will also judge the next season, filling the seat that has been filled this season by a rotating pool of judges, including Chanel Iman and Kim Kardashian. According to...

When Diane von Furstenberg was approached by the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow to create a retrospective of her life and career, she immediately had two thoughts: "One, I knew it couldn't just be dresses, because for me fashion is so much more than that," she explained at the exhibit's opening on Friday night. "And two, that I would need my dear André Leon Talley's help." Called Journey of a Dress and curated by Talley, the...
