I'm so glad to see that the us otaku are getting our just deserts here in the US. On Aug 15th California's Napa Valley Museum will have an exibit dedicated to anime! Rightfully called "Manga & Anime: An Exhibition of Popular Cartoon Art", the exhibit goes on most of Friday. Finally, we can go into a museum and see something that is honestly art. I'm sorry but lets be honest, most of the time we go into a museum and see contemporary "art" we have to tilt our heads like a confused pug and state "WTF? This is art? This mess is worth a ... (Record of a Yokohama Shopping Trip) a manga series by Ashinano Hitoshi . An Awesome manga commonly reffered to as YKK series. It was such an inspiration for me. I can not begin to describe it. I hadn’t particularly analyzed how it lodged itself so firmly in my heart, I just accepted it there, and it always gives me a warm feeling to read this manga. Writing this blog has helped me reflect on the qualities that drew me to it. Quiet, thoughtful, and meticulously constructed, the story unfolds with engaging characters, grace and elegance. It is beautifully illustrated in a spare pen-and-ink drawing ... Read Full Story

Manga Cross-Stitch: Make Your Own Graphic Art Needlework by Helen McCarthy. Andrews McMeel Publishing; Har/Cdr edition (August 1, 2009). ‘Stitchers often get stereotyped as middle-aged ladies in cardigans, anime and manga fans as geeky teenage misfits. Both stereotypes are equally inaccurate – because both groups are just people who love beautiful things and want to create [...]

They say you can't judge a book by its cover. Deka Kyoshi, a new shonen manga series by Tamio Baba from CMX Manga provides a good example of this truism. With its cryptic title and innocuous cover art, Deka Kyoshi is a series that's actually a lot more interesting than its cover would suggest. When the CMX Manga folks first announced Deka Kyoshi, I have to admit I wasn't that intrigued by the concept nor the art -- I mean, come on, does anyone...

Both are pretty laid back & very surreal (One is steampunk & the other is technofantasy). They are about a single person who travels with a talking nonhuman companion. They visit many strange & different towns & get caught up the the mysteries, drama, & tragedy, then they move on to the next place. Because they will never return to a place they have been before, they try to stay detached from people, so their personalities are aloof...
