Earlier this year nearly 700,000 used cars were traded in and sent to be scrapped under the federal Car Allowance Rebate System, or “Cash for Clunkers.” Although it is illegal to resell any car accepted into the Cash for Clunkers program, there’s widespread concern that many of these vehicles will show up for sale around the country. So how can you know if the used car you’re buying was actually meant for the scrap heap? Carfax, working with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), has added the vehicle identification number of every car in the “Cash for Clunkers” program to its database. Most everyone in the country has heard of the Cash for Clunkers program. The media has been talking about how wonderful it’s been for boosting Automobile sales. Sometimes they’ve even been honest enough to mention that most of the cars sold from this program, would have been sold anyway, they’ve just sold sooner. So far, though, I have not seen one person speak up to tell Americans what this program really is. Don’t think I’m talking about some tinfoil hat, Government conspiracy thing here. It’s not some hidden agenda either, Barack Obama himself told you about it during the campaign last fall. Remember his ... Read Full Story

The Cash for Clunkers Program has come to a close after a very short but very successful and busy run as what has been named the most successful stimulus program put in to use to date by President Obama . This of course helped many different aspects of the economy such as jobs and the credit markets. Plus don’t ... Read Full Story

Cash for Clunkers is ending on Monday. The plan was so popular that it is running out of money again and there seems to be no extension of the program. In theory this sounded like a great plan and has definitely stimulated the car industry because people were interested in purchasing a new car that would be more fuel efficient. One problem I had with the program is that people were allowed to buy any car, instead of just offering the program for more fuel efficient American made cars. Another issue, is will the people who are buying the new cars really be able ... Read Full Story

There may need to be a new award for short-sightedness in Washington DC: The Clunker Award. The U.S. Transportation Dept. is expected on Friday to announce a suspension of the popular “Cash for Clunkers” program that rewards car buyers for trading in old cars and trucks for new, more fuel efficient vehicles after just one week. Federal officials fear that a backlog of applications for rebates will quickly exhaust the fund, and will tell dealers on Friday to stop closing sales that depend on the government money. The White House was working feverishly Thursday night to find a way to avert a suspension of ... Read Full Story
