ePortfolios - direction and ways to use

Ray Tolley’ blog discusses the many issues which influence the how, why and what of using eportolios in education. He has summarised a google doc version of a summary of a mindmeister mindmap of work being done at Unitec in Auckland by Hazel Owens and the Centre for Learning & Teaching Innovation . I am looking forward to touching base with Hazel later this month at efest in Palmerston North & next month at the eportfolios in VET showcase in Melbourne. I am hoping that the conversations with... Re: Birmingham Conference

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend  - a hard-up retired chap now!    was quite interested/pleased with some of the quotes "The Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills framework (PLTS) is the tool the government has given schools to develop independent, creative learners for the 21st century." [Mark Treadwell] I would  really like to hear what John Crookes, Head of Curriculum Partnerships and Evidence at the QCA,  has to say, he is going to   " give you an exclusive insight... Re: Identity Crisis

A lot of issues here, John. But to your last question re relationship between personal learning environment and digital identity my view is that one of the changes the education system will undergo is the removal of the four walls from learning. This is the simple recognition that learning does not just happen between the hours of 9 and 3, between four walls, between 2 Septembers with breaks in between. Life is learning, isn't it. Sounds simple, but true. There is really no... Read Full Story

Re: Are we missing something; are today’s learners ‘independent’ learners?

Hello John, I am unable to point to any research one way or the other relating to your question about how well (or poorly) we are fostering self- directed, independent learning. I work at a college preparatory school here in the San Francisco Bay area and I do have some anecdotal evidence that says we are not doing the best job in promoting a movement toward helping students become more self-directed and independent. In many ways, I think traditional school enables learners to... Read Full Story

Re: Scotland move forward with ePortfolios

I suppose the reference to 2004 + 2005 should have been a bit of a give away  - but OK, I only skimmed it and posted it to the community while sitting by the side of Lake Windemere. Enough of the excuses, it does show the value of community, within a couple of hours both Serge and Helen had come back to me to point out the out dated nature of the orginal Blogg post and that Katrhyn Chang Barker now works in Saudi Arabia. I must read things more carefully! The discussion that Ray... Read Full Story

Re: ePortfolio 2009 - 22nd - 24th June - London - an opportunity to meet?

Hi John, Ours is on Tuesday afternoon: "Sustainable eportfolio implememtation through Information, Advice and Gidance services in a UK region: Developments to a learner-centred ecosystem." I think you are chairing in a parallel session. Hope to catch you around though - I will also be sharing the University of Nottingham's stand in the Knowledge Hub (stand 9). I would really value your opinion on Passportfolio and the PLTS activities we have developed on it. We still have a lot of... Read Full Story

drifted across this via   http://www.international.studywiz.com/?p=1510#more-1510 - anyone able to point me towards an overview that shows what is happening, in terms ePortfolios,  in each country?  "South Australia takes the lead in online learning with Studywiz ePortfolio - South Australia is taking the national lead in providing an interactive personalised online education system in a statewide roll- out of new technology developed in Australia that is designed to prepare students...
