Thanks Ray. I was hoping to see the group as complementary not
splinter. The main issue with me is that I can only support West Mids
LSC funded peoples. We intend to use this type of online dicussion to
supplement F2F sessions in the East/West Mids region. As much as I'd
like all UK interested parties joining the fray, my hands are somewhat
tied? suggestions/

Hi, Christina,
You describe a troubled world where nobody seems to have a clear vision of
anything. I think that it is important to get down to first principles.
Yes, I believe that you are right to say that an e-Portfolio should be
personally owned and free of any institution's control. However, in
pragmatic terms the accessing of many different e-Portfolios by a teacher
would be a nightmare. That is why I prefer to support teachers in setting
up basic common templates... Read Full Story
You have spotted my Achilles heel! - I benefited from a Secondary
Modern education, I am OK with dovetail joints; I could turn the
wheels and I have a working understanding of boat building. However I
would struggle, as some of my Mosep colleagues will confirm, when I
have to communicate in languages other than English. So once we get
eTrojan into the 'fort' I will be little use; I can speak slowly and
do move my hands around a lot, pointing at things. I find it sometimes
helps but... Read Full Story
The more I explore and think about Functional Skill, the more I become
to believe in the mantra that Functional Skills are about teaching and
learning; that the pilot is a real pilot, and that those who take part
do have a real opportunity to shape the curriculum and more
significantly, what learning opportunities and experiences are
provided for learners. It is the requirement for learners to operate
independently that many people are missing, or hoping will go away,
that will... Read Full Story

No Ray, you're not the only one that gets irritated - me too! In my humble opinion there are too many advocating the inappropriate use of
'tools' such as blogs, wikis, forums, etc because they do not understand how... Read Full Story
Ah! You must have forgotten all your Greek Literature! It was the Trojans
that lived inside Troy and the Greeks that were besieging the city as
Menelaus wanted Helen back because Paris (or was it Higher Ed) had taken
possession of her!
Anyway, I think that Sinon, tied as he was to the concept of e-Portfolios
(oops I mean the Horse) was very brave. One of the Trojans called Laocoon
was suspicious of the horse (or was it the e-Portfolio?) and threw a spear
at it as the Luddites... Read Full Story

I agree.
I built a complete self, peer, senior feedback system in my ePortfolio
framework.
One perfect example of peer review is when students put their business ideas
in their enterprise ePortfolio - and then get other students, teachers - or
business mentors to give feedback.
You can see what I mean at www.enterprise-tracker.com/folio Any comments?

Mike,
You raise many issues all of which arise from a wide range of different
voices, all demanding different things. I wrote a paper
< http://www.maximise-ict.co.uk/Hijacking.pdf > , almost two years ago,
identifying this situation and asking that e-Portfolio users and designers
should not hijack the e-Portfolio concept for their own individualistic
purposes.
With all due respect to Connexions, (and I have admired their work for many
years) the promotion of the e-Portfolio in... Read Full Story
