With football season around the corner, it is crucial to do a little research prior to the draft.

Shocking Fantasy Football Start’em Sit’em Sleepers for Week #1

I realize that there are a million start’em sit’ems out there so I’m not going to waste your time going over all of the obvious players. Instead, I am just going to give you a few players that will surprise you with either greatness or not so greatness.

Start’em if you got’em

LaMont Jordan - Yep he’s a Raider and yep he’s one of my locks this week. Call it a feeling. Call it the Motor City Kitties defense. Whatever, just put the man in. The Raiders defense will do its thing by causing a few turnovers and the offense will move the chains just enough. Pencil LJ in as a solid number two back; a TD, a hundred spot and a few catches. A few players I would start him over this week: Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, Clinton Portis and DeDe Dorsey (gotta make sure I get at least one right).

Washington Redskins D
- Remember all of those great lines Trent played behind in KC? I do too! However, I’m not so sure that he does. Even if he does, he is sure going to miss them after this week. The Washington defense smells blood in the water and will house two picks, 5 sacks and a touchdown to boot. Defense I would start them over this week - you better sit down for this on - Chicago.

Sit’em if you got’em

Jon Kitna - Unless you need to start two QB’s you better keep “Johnny 10 plus wins” on the bench. He’s gonna be playing in the Black Hole against a defense with one of the best pass defenses in the league. Maybe this one isn’t to much of a shock or sleeper but he was rated pretty high on draft boards. A few guys I would start in front of him: obviously any of the top tier QB’s (P. Manning, Brady, McNabb, etc) plus Jake Delhomme, Hasselbeck, and Romo.

Ben Rothlisberger? - Don’t get me wrong, I think Big Ben will get the job done this year but this week I’d be a little leary of starting him if you have a better option. Cleveland defense isn’t as bad as you think and they are at home. It’s a huge rivalry and they’ve been planning for this game for quite awhile. I expect a low scoring affair that most likely won’t produce many fantasy points outside of the Pitt defense. Guys I would start in front of him; same as with Kitna,

There you have it. I’m sure a few of those will raise some eyebrows but it doesn’t take much when talking fantasy football anyway. Good luck this on Sunday!
