During 2003 Zimmer Holdings, the world’s largest orthopedic device manufacturer, brought into play a new hip replacement device, only in Europe.
It was called the Zimmer Durom Hip Implant. It was used successfully in over 12,000 surgeries prior to being marketed in the United States starting in 2006. For some reason the success rate here in the US has not been stellar with hundreds of patients requiring revision surgery to correct problems with their implants. Because of this lawsuits are springing up, meanwhile Zimmer has issued a hold on the sales of further implant devices until they can develop and implement better training methods.
Medical Doctors claim that the implant device is faulty and that is why they are failing. Zimmer counters with the fact that it has been so successful in Europe then state that the US surgeons must be at fault.
They do concur, however, that surgical doctors have suffered from lack of the necessary training concerning the proper procedures for properly performing the implant and that this lack of training has been instrumental in the failure of the replacement surgeries.

Durom Hip Implants.
While keeping this fact in mind, Zimmer suspended implant sales in the US on their own, until a method for providing better training levels to surgeons is put in place. Some medical professionals are still blaming the hip implant itself and have chosen not to perform any more surgeries with the Zimmer hips involved even if further training is provided.
