I use Outlook 2007 and it wasn't very obvious to me either. Down at the bottom left, under the folders, there's a yellow tab below the Mail/Calendar/Contacts/Tasks (I'd show you a screen shot, but html isn't allowed in this group). If you mouse over the little icons, one should say NOTES. Click on that will change the left menu bar to notes, showing any there to click on.
