3.1.2-Phone finally responsive yay . Visual voicemail hosed. boo iPhone 3G

From:  iphone-chat.org
Had been having constant coma issues with 3.1, so upgraded to 3.1.2 the moment it popped up on my screen. Things seem zippier and more responsive, and so far no comas (fingers crossed)HOWEVER. I realized recently that ever since I updated the carrier file with 3.1, I had not actually received any visual voicemail, in spite of the fact that people have indeed left me messages. (I often use the phone interface for messages, since visual voicemail has always been kinda flakey, so I hadnt thought... Read Full Story

Data-stealing hack targets jailbroken iPhones (Macworld.com)

From:  pcmike.com
Macworld.com – Once more into the breach, my iPhone-wielding compatriots. On Monday, we heard about the iPhone vulnerability that allowed dastardly hackers to place nefarious Rick Astley wallpaper on some jailbroken devices. Now, security firm Intego reports that the same loophole can allow hackers to do far worse. Re: [apple-iphone] Apple iphone/ipod

Yup - same thing with Podcasts - I seriously think this has to do with the "back office" coding of adding the "Store" to the phone. Previous to 3.0 iTunes on the computer (that you synced with) was the "clearing house" for everything - even purchases made on the iPhone were not actually "completed" until you synced it back to iTunes (yes your account / credit card/ whatever was charged at as soon as you hit 'buy' - not what I am talking about) the actual database addition that said Bill... Re: [apple-iphone] Apple iphone/ipod

The fault is the computer and drive makers for allowing and using different standards. There *is* a standard for the binary "powers of 10" but no one seems to be using it. < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte > Otto 2009/8/31 Bill Boulware < bill.boulware@gmail.com > > To agree with you about everything else, I keep large documents and > many other things on my iPhone in addition to music and have podcasts > that take up a good 9GB usually, sometimes up to 12 or 13 if I am > behind...   Bill, I had to hunt down the original article. It does not give any reference as to where the information came from.   Sent to you by Bill B via Google Reader: Apple Taking More Active Role In iPhone 3.1 Battery Life Troubleshooting [Apple] via Gizmodo by Jack Loftus on 9/20/09 Sure, the iPhone 3.1 update delivered a host of new features, including the exceptionally tardy MMS, but for some users there was something extra: Crappy battery life. Today, however, Apple seems to be taking steps to address the issue, starting with a new list of 11 questions that run the gamut from asking about push... Read Full Story

[apple-iphone] Apple expected to offer iPhone on new U.S. carriers within a year

This one also has the interesting, plausible, hopeful idea that iTunes could one day replace Cable companies by offering a content subscription model where you could say subscribe to the major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW) and say the ones that you want SyFy, TNT, USA, Bravo, and HBO and only pay for those instead of paying for the 1,500+ channels we get now at outrageous monthly prices when we only watch certain ones... this of course would lead to increased Apple TV sales and Apple... [apple-iphone] Re: Ringtone won't sync with itunes

You need to authorize your MacBook as one of the 5 computers allowed to play songs and ringtones. If you try to play a song that you purchased from the Apple iTunes store it should alert you that you are not authorized and give you an opportunity to authorize the computer you are using as one of the 5 computers allowed to access purchased items. You can goto menu 'Store' and click on option 'Authorize'. I am assuming that you purchased this ringtone from the Apple store. -joan --- In... Read Full Story

[apple-iphone] Ringtone won't sync with itunes

I'm a new iPhone user, I bought one of the older 8GB 3G models. With the new iPhone update, I was now able to buy a ringtone and have been using it on my iPhone. Today, however was the first time I'd synced my iPhone with my MacBook. It's also the first day I've set the Home Sharing function on my Macbook and iMac. I get an error message "Decode" (song name) not found and is not copied to Jenny S iPhone because you are not authorized to play it on this computer." I am the admin of both... Read Full Story
