“In health there is freedom. Health is the first of all liberties.”
- Henri Frederic Amiel

There are many healthcare challenges facing the Latin American region. Some of these include child malnutrition, high infant mortality rates, the spread of AIDS, the lack of reproductive health options, etc. These challenges are further aggravated by the poverty existent within much of the rural areas as well as the urban areas, where the majority of the population is concentrated. This site aims to keep track of any development within this area in terms of new programs, initiatives, policies, organizations, etc.

TemasEtUnam Synopsis in English : About a year ago I noted the coming into effect of the World Health Organization’s ( WHO ) new International Health Regulations ( IHR ), and explained their significance for dealing with a cross-border, trans-national or global health crisis — a breakout or pandemic of infectious disease, contamination in an internationally traded foodstuff, a bioterrorism incident, a health crisis created by a natural disaster. Now the member states of the Pan American Health Organization ( PAHO ) are working out how to implement the IHR in the Americas. A recent meeting in Brasilia looked at how member states should ...
