Darker My Love released "2" on Dangerbird Record August 5th. They are at number 17 on the CMJ radio chart, up from 21 last week. Pitchfork gave them a 4.4 rating. That's out 10 so they are way down on the record. The review states "Sadly though, most of 2 relies on slow burners and underwhelming soundscapes intended to overwhelm." I've enjoyed the songs I've heard off the record a lot more than Pitchfork. It's getting a thumbs up from the pants. The song to download is "Two Ways Out...

Waved Rumor isn't a huge Les Savy Fav fan (not entirely sure why, though....it rocks, it's crazed live stuff, but maybe just a different neighborhood?), but I AM excited to learn that the band will get a big shot at national TV exposure Thursday night on the Conan O Brien show on NBC. Their people shout out...."With the release of Let’s Stay Friends (out now on Frenchkiss Records), indie art rock mainstays Les Savy Fav start 2008 with their debut national television performance on Conan...

Dumptruck is one of those bands that never got the recognition they probably deserved. Here and gone in a flash, they released three albums – d is for Dumptruck (1985), Positively Dumptruck (1986) and For the Country (1987). The first album is OK, the third is quite good, but Positively Dumptruck fully captures the essence of the band and is one of my favorite albums from the ‘80s. Dripping with fuzzy guitars, snaky bass lines, crashing drums and matter-of-fact singing, Dumptruck didn’t...

Saddled with the most ironic name in rock history, Big Star is the greatest band you’ve never heard. Well, perhaps you have heard them. Thanks to a bevy of praise from alternative rock bands (The Replacements even named a song after leader Alex Chilton), Big Star has garnered an impressive cult following in the last two decades. But the band was largely ignored when they burst on the scene in 1972, releasing three excellent albums in three turbulent years, three albums that aurally mirror...

New Wax In today's vast expanse of indie music, getting proper exposure can be an impossibly daunting task, and unfortunately, many talented and deserving bands slip through the cracks. While North Carolina's Red Collar seems to be keenly aware of this harsh reality, there is a depth apparent in their music that easily distinguishes them from the rest of the flock. The band's first release The Hands Up EP, is a post-punk triumph, drawing from influential bands like Fugazi and Jawbox...

Right now I'm totally loving this band called Beirut. Led by indie darling Zach Condon, the band takes much of its musical influence from old French chansons and music from Eastern Europe. If you like folksy indie rock with a hint of Old World flavor, than may also like Beirut. I have yet to hear their first album Gulag Orkestar, but lately I've been enchanted by their newest album, The Flying Club Cup. You can buy the CD/listen to music samples here. If you really like their music, then...

Well. This is my first post. And my first blog besides xanga. I slept for 24 hours straight today and yesterday. I'm sick. =/ With a terrible cough/cold. Song of the day: The Faint - Symptom Finger Artist Of The Week: Love is all Love Is All is a Swedish indie pop/rock band with former members of sunshine twee pop Girlfriendo. Post-Punk-ish in sound with distorted sax, reviving the work of The Slits and The Pop Group and newer groups such as Life Without Buildings along the lines of...
