Zach Condon has ended his short break from Beirut and has announced a double EP and the formation of a new record label. The first EP is titled March of the Zapotec , aptly named since Condon “recorded in Mexico with the help of Oaxacan march masters The Jimenez Band.” The Zapotec is an indigenous civilization in Mexico that dates back 2,500 years.
March of the Zapotec was partly tracked with a funeral band of 17 members from a tiny town of Oaxaca, Mexico. Zach Condon had begun working on... Read Full Story

We posted about Deerhunter’s Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP , but at the time had no clue that it would actually be available on cassette. But it is.
Deerhunter are kicking off a big European tour this weekend, and although you can get the EP on Monday as a download, and on 6/22 as both 12″ and CD, if you make it to one of these European tour stops, you can pick up Rainwater Cassette Exchange as God (or, rather, Bradford Cox) intended: on cassette... Waved Rumor isn't a huge Les Savy Fav fan (not entirely sure why, though....it rocks, it's crazed live stuff, but maybe just a different neighborhood?), but I AM excited to learn that the band will get a big shot at national TV exposure Thursday night on the Conan O Brien show on NBC. Their people shout out.... "With the release of Let’s Stay Friends (out now on Frenchkiss Records), indie art rock mainstays Les Savy Fav start 2008 with their debut national television performance on Conan... Read Full Story
Darker My Love released "2" on Dangerbird Record August 5th. They are at number 17 on the CMJ radio chart, up from 21 last week. Pitchfork gave them a 4.4 rating. That's out 10 so they are way down on the record. The review states "Sadly though, most of 2 relies on slow burners and underwhelming soundscapes intended to overwhelm." I've enjoyed the songs I've heard off the record a lot more than Pitchfork. It's getting a thumbs up from the pants. The song to download is "Two Ways Out." SeeqPod... Read Full Story

Saddled with the most ironic name in rock history, Big Star is the greatest band you’ve never heard. Well, perhaps you have heard them. Thanks to a bevy of praise from alternative rock bands (The Replacements even named a song after leader Alex Chilton), Big Star has garnered an impressive cult following in the last two decades. But the band was largely ignored when they burst on the scene in 1972, releasing three excellent albums in three turbulent years, three albums that aurally mirror... Read Full Story

Why? - Why is that guy in the background of the video pretending to play the crutch? Why are they performing at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum? And why does one person play both the drums and the zylaphone? I can't help you with any of these questions. It's all simply a part of what makes Why? such an interesting band. SeeqPod - Playable Search Wikipedia: Why? is a Berkeley hip hop and indie rock lyricist and musician Jonathan "Yoni" Wolf. The group has since gone on to include Doug... Read Full Story
