Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries (FOBLC)

Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries (FOBLC)
is a new group which has been formed to protect and improve these beautiful and historic Victorian cemeteries.

So far the group has had a number of well-attended meetings and organised a guided walk around the cemeteries as party of the ‘Healthy Brockley’ event. Ladywell chapel was also opened up for visitors to view photographed butterflies and other invertebrate creepy-crawlies that have been observed recently in the cemeteries. We have already been successful in lobbying the Council for some improvements including painting the Victorian railings and hope to continue pushing for further work in more neglected areas of the cemeteries.

FOBLC are also keen to organise volunteer days to improve the cemetery for users, relatives and wildlife, achieving a balance between its purpose and the abundant wildlife that has made it a Borough Grade One site for Biodiversity.

The group is looking for extra members to get involved in organising future events and is also keen to hear from anyone with a particular knowledge or interest in the history or wildlife of the cemeteries.
