Chapter Twenty-Five--March And Forward March!!!

On March 1, Invisible Youth Network
will be launching its street outreach program, starting with focus on
the estimated 4000 children and teens in the San Diego area alone who
are part of the homeless population. Participants are now in training
for this event.

This is something that IYN founder and chairman,
Russell T. Hartsaw, began doing on his own--eventually, being assisted
by a handful of others.

This is how he describes what will be taking place:

____________________

Many homeless youth attempt to survive living on the streets day to
day. To assist them we provide them the following items, when
available:

Backpacks

Clothing, Shorts, Sox, T-Shirts, Medium & Large, Male & Female

Gift Cards, Fast Food, $5.00 Denominations

Hooded Sweatshirts, Medium & Large

Knit Hats

Non-Perishable Food Items

Travel Size Hygiene Items

Sleeping Bags

Wallets

Water Bottles

Beginning
March 1, 2009 the Invisible Youth Network will be launching its new
Street Outreach Program which consists of sending out to the streets
teams of Street Outreach Workers to evaluate and address the needs of
homeless youth.

These teams will go out two nights a week
between the hours of 5:00 - 9:00 PM, and are currently going through a
training process.

We will also be passing-out bags of
McDonalds in conjunction with two local McDonalds restaurants, which
care about these kids as much as we do.

How can you help?

We need both cash donations and items from our wish list (the latter which must be new merchandise). For details, please go here as well as reading a piece I wrote called What If Everybody Did It?

Besides the street outreach, another project
on which we're working is providing housing and other resources for
these deserving kids, and Russell is currently looking into a number of
possibilities from large, grounded mansions to former hotels. Likely,
several styles of housing will eventually be part of this endeavor with
one common thread:

These will be places where our young people
will feel safe and cared for, have a sense of dignity, and will be
worked with in order to help them to be their best selves. Although
they will be expected to follow a few simple rules (ones that involve
respect for themselves and others), they will never feel as if they're
existing in a boot camp atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please share it with people you know...
