THE OPEN - NORMAL SERVICE RESUMES ON TUESDAY 22nd JULY

The 137th Open Golf Championship starts today at Royal Birkdale ( pictured above ), near Southport in the UK . Now there are some great golf tournaments - the US Masters, the US Open, the US PGA - and what’s often called the fifth major, the US TPC.  But there’s only one Open . On Sunday evening after 4 days of great links golf one lucky winner will be hailed as simply  ”the Champion Golfer for 2008″ . The Open represents golf - and sport - in it’s purest untainted form .

Because of The Open, which luckily for the blog author will be taking up most of his time over the next 4 days, the blog will regretably not be updated over the weekend. It’s anticipated that daily Entrecard drops will continue. Regular full daily posting for Caledonian Comment will return to normal on Tuesday 22nd July . Visitors are thanked for their loyalty and patience .
