Oh Dior!

Such Whimsy!
I couldn’t help but think of Little Bo Peep when I saw this dress, albeit a very sophisticated, elegant, well-dressed version. If a frock like that comes with the job, I may have to change careers. The gorgeous blue delft pattern on the inside of the skirt and airy texture on the top combined with a daring high low hem and feminine neckline is almost more than I can bear. So, for this week, of course I had to create a bridal style collage in... Read Full Story

To top off our week of giving back while planning your wedding, of course we must talk about your dress!
A wedding gown is such a lovely and special thing, and it is hard not to become sentimentally attached to it. For those that can part with their gown, donating it to the Making Memories Foundation will not only help you do good but also make you feel good. The Making Memories Foundation has annual sales of donated bridal gowns, and all the proceeds go towards breast cancer research.

As you register for things for your home and new life together, consider adding a registry for the charity of your choice. At Changing the Present, friends and family can choose a charity to donate in your name. Through the I Do Foundation, couples may register for gifts with companies like Target, Cooking.com, and Amazon.com where a portion of the proceeds are donated. Done in combination or (for those more giving than I am) in place of a traditional gift registry, you may give and receive... Read Full Story

There are so many events and parties that surround a wedding, consider rounding up your ladies and gents for a pre-wedding community service party. Set a date and invite everyone who is able to join you for an afternoon of service followed by revelry. Visit Network For Good to find a charity near you.

Though many centerpieces will be taken home by your guests, some will be left on the the tables with several days left of cheer in them. Arrange for them to be collected and dropped off to a local nursing home, hospice, or assisted living community. In some cases, an organization such as Flower Power may even pick up remaining flowers for you to brighten the day of those that need it most.

The menu you’ve planned for your wedding is delicious, and you would hate to see one bit of it go to waste.
Donate your leftover food (untouched, of course) to a foodbank, which will distribute it to those that need it. Ask your caterer, hotel, or venue if they have a group with which they work. Alternately, a quick internet search locally will produce several options. Some groups may make it easier than others to organize, but it is worth it!

You’ve been in more lovely weddings than you care to count and have the bridesmaid dresses in your closet to prove it. Some you’ve worn again while others have remained in their drycleaning bag, lurking in the closet waiting to see the light of day.
I often hold on to clothing purely for sentimental value. Each dress represents a special day spent with a friend on her wedding day. In those moments where you convince yourself you just might wear one of these dresses again, think... Read Full Story
