For 40 years Michael Jackson was the King of Pop: he was the consummate entertainer and one of the best selling artists of the last century. While we cannot ignore the strange behavior, the court cases and his ever changing appearance, Michael Jackson's legacy as an artist will be his music and his performances. Unlike many singers, his musical influence spread worldwide with fans not only in the US, but also as far apart as Europe, Asia and South America. His music was influential at a time when the soul and rock genres were going through a transitional period, during the emergence of hip-hop and solo rock in the Eighties, leading to his all time best-selling album "Thriller". Although he is sadly no longer with us, Michael Jackson's legacy will live on in the memory of those who grew up with his music and those who he "thrilled" during his live concerts.
