There are two prominent features of our useless, embarrassing criminal 'justice' system which proves it is both left wing and authoritarian. Firstly, it has purged the use and even the very mention of a key component of any successful justice system - the deterrent . Second, it is increasingly averse at judging the individual found guilty of an offence. We have gone from judging sinners, to judging the sin, and onto the final stage of this sick, culturally Marxist ontology by judging the... Read Full Story

One of the indicators of our great decline as a country is the strange, political evolution of our liberal justice system. From the '70s through to the end of the '90s, our pathetic, Lilly livered justice system was a blatant farce, doling out increasingly ludicrous 'sentences' for crimes and more and more rehabilitation related measures. Not content with this approach, and with Blair's New Labour in charge from '97, things took a different turn. With a centralist left back in power, and more... Read Full Story

I've just finished watching a hilarious 1980s action sci fi film on YouTube called ' They Live '. It prompted me to write a brief piece on the genre of '80s action movies, because it reminds me of my childhood and an era in film making totally unique in its oddness. 'They Live' is a classic example of an '80s B movie with all the hallmarks of that genre, and it was as much a comedy for me as an action film. Not in the same way that de Palma's brilliant, timeless 'Scarface' is my favourite... Read Full Story

I've decided that Misfits is not only the best thing on television these days, but also the most underrated TV series to ever appear on British screens. For those who are not accustomed, I urge you to watch. It is now in its third series, and the missus and I have been hooked since watching the very first episode a few years back. The scripting, casting and direction is simply first rate, the acting is brilliant, the characters extremely original and entertaining. Every episode is a bit of... Read Full Story

For those who watched Question Time last Thursday, you may recall the final closing question regarding happiness. It was asked in connection with (as I recall) some finding or other on what makes Britons happy. The panel was asked on what they thought was the route to human happiness. Most people said things like 'partner' and 'children'. When it wheeled round to Peter Hitchens , he, with an indignant flourish of his pen, threw said article on the table and boldly announced "faith in God... Read Full Story

I have no idea why so much hype was built up around 'Attack the Block', and neither do I know how many times it has been reviewed in the press, but having seen this travesty on DVD yesterday, I am compelled to pen some thoughts. I am a huge fan of apocalypse films, particularly ones that are set on the premise of a crucible situation, alien invasions and particularly zombies. This means I have to see any film that hits this sort of genre. It also means I am a fan of Stephen King and George... Read Full Story

Much has changed over the last three years, but in many ways it has stayed just as it was for years before that. The people continue under the delusion that this is a democracy ruled by our elected representatives, the truth is far darker.
At work I am constantly reminded of how deluded people are. 'I'd take redundancy and get a job elsewhere' is the oft heard phrase, as if the latter would actually happen.
And then I look at the news and hear the politician's lips moving, but the... Read Full Story

Recently I've travelled to some fairly depressing places around the London/Kent/Surrey borders. Swanley, Orpington, Croydon and inbetween, the traditional commuter developments where people no longer commute. Some of the things I have seen have struck me as being the very route of the country's problem.
Some parts of these areas are amazingly rich, some of the richest in fact. But large parts of them are inter-war estates with industrial areas that no longer function properly. The vast... Read Full Story

People interested in politics and/or business, and who watch related reality TV shows, may have caught up with the recent news that Stella English, last year's Apprentice winner, was fired / walked out of her £100,000 a year prize winning job (depending on which account you chose to accept - in reality, it seems she jumped before her contract ended, so not so straightforward). Some balance is required on this issue, because from what I've seen online and on Twitter, most people are talking a... Read Full Story
