Unbelievably, there are people in the United States that are still obsessed with the fear of a socialist take over of the government. I have to pinch myself to make sure I’ve not fallen asleep and somehow been transported back in time to the McCarthy era or the Reagan era of the 1980’s, when then president Ronald Reagan sought to and destroyed the “evil empire”, referring to the former USSR.
In 2009, many communist countries don't even believe in true communisim ... Read Full Story
Words, phrases and sayings all have roots in other languages that have come over into English and on to the Merican language. Many words we use today may have common origins and meanings familiar to us and others may not. For instance I’ve noticed how the word Black evolves and bleaches to white in it’s origins. Here are some words that we use everyday and may not have thought of their etymological roots or where they come from and how they just may affect our psyche without us ... Read Full Story
In this last video I will post, Dr. Pookrum speaks of the profound resistance and lack of care in the health industry she faced. She speaks of advising pregnant women of their options other than taking prenatal vitamins which she found, by reading several studies, have the possibility of causing birth defects and the effects of long term birth control pills usage on women. She expresses her surprise as a young doctor, to learn the older Black people on her staff (nurses and doctors) were not... Read Full Story
24 year old Mitrice Richardson is missing. Her face has not been plastered on the national morning news shows like Annie Le was posted everywhere Nor has she been a subject on the evening televised entertainment rags (can you call a television show a rag?), any way you get my drift. We have not even heard her name mentioned on the Warren Ballentine, Bev Johnson, Al Sharpton or Michael Baisden shows, Nope, not a peep. I guess that may be too much to ask. Fortunately, I was gleani... Read Full Story
We are being sold a bill of goods. What’s more wicked is most of us are buying the bill. Like the Chinese, constantly buying IOU’s in the name of U.S. Treasury Bonds, the U.S. public constantly buys into hope and no change. President Obama has proved to be exactly what he is, the poster boy for marketing and snake oil sales. When I’ve spoken to others of the Black Collective the response has gone from “give the man time” to “he is only the president, it t... Read Full Story
Wellness is our own personal business. The Healthcare bill being pushed by the white house will only be a bandaid on a cancer if we don't take our own health and wellness into our own hands Today, we are constantly bombarded with (mis)information typically presented to us via the television. The Swine flu is the title of latest weapon of fear hoisted upon the people for whatever purposes and as told by the news our only hope is to get the vaccine, which w... Read Full Story
In any war, logistics are the back bone of an army or more recently any fighting force, since its difficult to label the people fighting against Britain and her military, the U.S. Army as an army or military. At any rate, weapons break or wear out, have to be replaced. Bullets and all other munitions have to be re-supplied, not to mention medical treatment and medical supply’s.
In wars past, armies would focus on and spend great resources to disrupt and destroy supply lines. I h... Read Full Story
Amazingly, President Obama tells us the economy is showing signs of recovery because we are losing jobs at half the rate than when he first took office. Somehow this should be interpreted as good news and we should all rejoice as the shepherds did upon receiving the message from the host of angels of the impending birth of the baby Jesus.
One such indicator pointed out by the president, is the rise of the stock market in recent days. On August 7th, CNN reported The Dow gaining 114 poin... Read Full Story
Blocked. Writers block I suppose would be the term associated with this mental constipation I have been suffering. No amount of fiber can cause a release of this awful stoppage plaguing me at this time. It seems that there is so much to write about, but no word come to fruition to accomplish a decent post. I’ve considered my back up to be due to the lack of televised news in my mental diet now, but not so, since I’ve dabbled a little in radio news. Maybe it’s the lack... Read Full Story
HABESHA is a community based organization in the city of Atlanta, founded in 2002 by Cashwan Meyers. Their focus is on the uplift of the youth in the City of Atlana based in the Mechanicsville area. HABESHA will be featured on Black In America 2 later this month on the topic of urban gardening. I, like one of the commenter’s on this blog, am a bit skeptical of the purpose of the Black In America series, however I have admired the work of HABESHA in Atlanta.
