I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m possessed by (or of) a rather active imagination.
I can read a story and visualize what’s going on. Don’t know if that qualifies as a talent or not.
I also can hear a descriptive sentence and do the same thing, so when yesterday morning’s Nature Notes went into a bit of a graphic description about dissecting a turtle I had this visualization of the creature (which reportedly weighed 23 lbs and h... Read Full Story

I can’t say that I wasn’t warned.
I went ahead and sent it anyway.
I just truly had no idea how badly the odds were stacked against me.
My previous experiences just left me totally in the dark as to how desperate times are for some people. That’s my defense. I just had no way of knowing. No preparation for having something so simple going so wrong.
And I’m sorry.
Sorry that some people are disappointed. Sorry that someone won’t get what was intended to be a keeps... Read Full Story

She walked in with a spring in her step and a twitch to her hips. The black felt beret was tilted at a jaunty angle over one eye. She carried herself proudly aware of her impact on the other patrons in the restaurant.
The skirt of her dress swirled around her knees as she walked, drawing the eye to her black lace stockings. The heels she wore made her legs look like a dancer’s. Her strides were long and confident.
While strapless and daring, the dress was modestly covered by the black l... Read Full Story

As my husband sits watching Darlington on his Rackmount monitor, he’s missing one of his favorite drivers.
That’s right, Jeremy Mayfield was suspended indefinitely today for failing a random drug test and becoming the first NASCAR driver to do so.
“In my case, I believe that the combination of a prescribed medicine and an over the counter medicine reacted together and resulted in a positive drug test,” Mayfield said in a statement. ... Read Full Story

I’ve been taking Darren Rowse’s 31 days to a better blogger “course” which I started a week ago today. I’ve already seen improvements in my statistics as well as been introduced to some new bloggers (hello Ralph and Karen and thank you for your contributions to the discussions at hand!)

Carrie Prejean shocked us this week when photos of her posing topless (accounts said nude, but all I ever saw were a couple of her wi... Read Full Story

USA Today just reported that LA Dodger’s star outfielder, Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
Now, I ask you where is the news in that? I mean come on now — what MLB player HASN’T tested positive for some kind of drugs lately?? If it’s not steroids it’s something else either legal or illegal, but banned from competitive sport nevertheless. These guys just seem to figure that if they escape getting ca... Read Full Story

The hot topic this evening (5/6/09) isn’t Cinco de Mayo, but rather a rehash of some grisly photos of a tragic accident that happened nearly three years ago.
Nikki Catsouras was nearly decapitated when she rammed her fathers’ Porche 911 into a tollbooth. It was October 31st, 2006 and even today her family is haunted — no STALKED by the photos that were posted to the web of her mangled and torn body.
WORSE, during the weeks following the accident, Nikki’s family receive... Read Full Story

There were a lot of choices for today’s hot topic, from American Idol’s Adam Lambert and his rendition of Led Zepplin’s Whole Lotta Love on last night’s Idol performance to the US Navy’s new supership, the USS Freedom, so why, do you ask, did I choose this name — someone you may have never heard of before (I know I hadn’t)?
Because HER story goes beyond the trivialness that is the Idol experience and supercedes the reasons we need a ship like the Free... Read Full Story

Miss USA Runnerup Carrie Prejean pre-augmentation
She’s controversial because of her statement when asked at the Miss USA Pageant if she believed in gay marriage, that her belief was that “marriage should be between a man and a woman” to accusations of having breast augmentation surgery before the Miss USA pageant and now, apparently because she chose to model topless!
Carrie Prejean is pushing all the hot buttons these days and the media, bloggers and yes, even little old m... Read Full Story

I know people will query Google on the oddest things — I mean I routinely put in what probably looks like some pretty bizzare search terms. Things like “TSQL datetime formats” or “replication error x1zbl001239847″.
Well, those won’t look weird to a SQL database administrator, but to the average Joe, they do.
When I look through my statistics, the one search term that’s bringing people here from Google is “Kid... Read Full Story
