Roulette Math - Part II
Thanks to no one, I’ve finally reached a conclusion to the question I posed at the end of my Roulette Math post. To prove it, proof by induction with two variables will be used. Explicitly, let be the statement To prove , Prove Assume Prove that is true if is true Assume Prove that is true if is true Phase 1 is true Phases 2, 3 Induction is not necessary here. Phases 4,5 Assume (phase 4) All that remains is to show that is true if the above is true (phase 5): Since by... Read Full Story
Beggars
I was walking down the street today when I was accosted by a man wearing tattered old clothing and feebly shaking a styrofoam cup with a couple coins in it. As I approached—and eventually left behind—this beggar, I thought about whether or not I should give him money. I quickly reached a mental impasse. Part of me wanted to give him some change, and part of me did not. As I explored my thoughts further, I realized that my mind is divided into four relatively equally-proportioned segments... Eli Mattson Should Win America’s Got Talent
Eli Mattson should win America’s Got Talent. This is not my opinion; this is fact. Well, actually it’s not, but I so firmly support Eli Mattson that I think the rest of the world ought to agree with me. Let’s take a look at his competition: Nuttin’ But Stringz: Probably the actual winner of AGT, Nuttin’ But Stringz is a duo-act of violin players. I see the appeal: they’re cool, they’re energetic, and they’re entertaining. My beef with them, though, is that they don’t actually play very good... Read Full Story
Prison Break: Season 4
I’m a Prison Break addict. I watched the entire first season in the space of about 72 hours like I was a crack addict and Prison Break was a big heap of really potent crack. It’s a little strange, I think, to be addicted to such a show. Sure, the plot’s action-packed and suspensful, the scripting is terrible. The cast deserves accolades for not sounding like complete morons onscreen. The drawback to the bad scripting is, no matter how good the actors are, the only way to say some of the... Read Full Story
Google Chrome
As of quite recently, word of Google’s new browser, Google Chrome, has made its rounds of the internet, inspiring both hype and hatred. What’s so special about Chrome? Well, see for yourself. Don’t bother wondering if Chrome is a good browser; it is. Don’t even bother asking if it’s better than Firefox, because, well, it’s really hard to say, and it’s not even an important question. The real question is whether Google Chrome is going to be successful. How much of the browser market will... Read Full Story
Speed Racer - A Review
Dude I'm like tripping so hard, dude
The Wachowski brothers’ film Speed Racer has received, in general, negative reviews. It has a 36% at Rotten Tomatoes, a 37/100 at Metacritic, and a 6.5/10 at IMDb. Most critics’ beef with the film is summed-up succinctly by Carina Choco for the LA Times: The fakeness of it all overwhelms, dampening any real excitement. It’s hard to care about characters so stiff and one-dimensional they out-cartoon the cartoon originals, and it’s hard to watch them bop around like avatars in a flat, airless... Read Full Story
An Argument With a Jerk
I received a comment on my Zimbio review of Beijing 2008, which is in fact a copy of the one I posted here. The following is copy & pasted directly from the comments section: Your full of shit , this game is the best olympic games since barcelona 1994 on megadrive, has so many events the control system using a ps2 pad with usb convertor works perectly , you just have to get used to control moethods of each event , theres tutorials that show you whats what, providing you find out your... Alone in the Dark
I really wanted to like this game. It’s been a while since a decent survival horror title, and I thought Alone in the Dark would fit the bill. Sadly, the game’s flaws far outnumber its few redeeming features. The Good Alone in the Dark sports some beautiful next-gen graphics with HDR effects. Every object is rendered in vivid detail; fire looks fiery, electricity looks electric, and hellish cracks running through the walls look, well, hellish. Besides looking good, objects are almost always... Read Full Story
Facebook “Hacking”
A few of my Facebook pals have recently been posting inane garbage on people’s profiles. This garbage often directs the reader to a site that can “enlarge your penis,” or  tell you who your “secret crush” is. Here’s an actual post from a friend’s wall: Ok pay close attention <friend’s name> what I am about to tell you must stay on the low down. Matty has been taking these cok pills now for a while and I found two bottles in his glove compartment. He made me promise that I would not tell... Read Full Story
Europa Universalis III
As an amateur programmer I often find myself writing bizarre and complex programs. For a while I dreamed of writing a program (in python) that would simulate European commerce and diplomacy in the Renaissance/Baroque period. In this program, I imagined, there would be AI-driven monarchs, merchants, military commanders and colonists. Paradox Interactive, the creators of Europa Universalis III seemed to have almost exactly the same idea in mind. I picked up Europa Universalis III because I’ve... Read Full Story
